// Greencross //

We’ve been trying to connect with the Sao Paulo based Greencross for quite some time to get a mix but the stars never really aligned but we’ve remained fans of his Different Is Different label in the meantime. This guy plays proper soundsystem techno and his label consistently and quietly puts out some of the best tunes in the genre and also happens to be one of the coolest dues around. We are glad this finally happened!  - Sean-Michael Yoder

// Bio //

Greencross, a venezuelan born, DJ and music producer. Started his career on the music industry when he moved to Spain in the year 2000, promoting what would be Barcelona’s last rave parties. The CONDUIT // 047 – Christian Cooper

// Christian Cooper //

We return to Cuenca, Ecuador for a diverse mix from Chris Cooper, coming to us courtesy of Nicolas Lopez, who absolutely tore up the series with episode #42. Cuenca sounds like a great scene with local talent and big name artists passing through, Cooper has been a great ambassador for his home and has gotten our attention. Like all great music from South America, this mix is made with passion and love. - Sean-Michael Yoder

// Bio //

Not like an ussual DJ in his country, Christian experiments with all kinds of weird sounds that comes up his mind. Tired of all the typical electronic music that was going on in the world, his productions are Deep and also futuristic; and he goes through the dark side of the music, always going experimental and twisted. His productions are part of labels like Uranobeat and Footprint Muzik (Colombia) and also of the well known London based label Apparel Music. A lot of good things have happended to Christian in 2011, like sharing the DJ Booth with almost all the well recognized talents of his country, and also a couple of international DJ’s. This 2012 will be a promising year for Christian, he’s got a lot of personal projects that must be completed.

The CONDUIT // 046 – Lee Webster

// Lee Webster //

Lee Webster has been hammering the nudisco sound outta Barcelona for a few years now. He’s a prolific producer and remixer who has a firm grasp on funk, disco, and rap musics’ contribution to today’s dance music sound. We also like his cheeky wit and double entendre approach to his art, people who take them too seriously are always a dreadful bore. Not to worry with Lee as he lays down a mix focused on killer underground midtempo sounds. Hope to have a tracklisting soon. - Sean-Michael Yoder

// Bio //

Lee grew up at around the same time that the Garage scene was growing in popularity among the underground heads. Pirate Radio shows broadcast bouncy deep House music from the US and mixed it with the UK´s own unique take on the genre…

“I used to get on the underground train to cross London in the evening so I could pick up the pirate radio stations across town. It was my first proper exposure to good House music and remains a constant inspiration, it was edgy and sexy at the same time; something I try to achieve in my own productions…”

Lee started to become familiar with artists such as Kerri Chandler, Danny J Lewis, Todd Edwards and Larry Levan and as his interest grew in House music, he began to research the labels and history behind the House movement. He became intentionaly lost in a sea of pulsing beats, swimming his way through Detroit kick drums and Chicago synths.

Re-locating to Barcelona led Lee to become exposed to people and nights that would eventually shape his tastes even further, this time delving into Disco, Balearic and early Progressive. He became fascinated with peoples old records, records that usually followed with a story. It was at this point that the styles began to fuse in his productions, heavily Garage influenced Jackin House on one hand and deep Disco Funk on the other, his style was born: A marriage of Dope & Deep.

“People ask me how I can make House music one day and, Hip-hop the other, and remain true to what I´m doing. For me, they are very closely connected, and I think to make good music you have to know the roots of where it came from to really understand the feelings behind it…”

// Antonio Arebalo //

Antonio is the first fan to contact us asking to present a mix. Keeping true to the original idea of the CONDUIT, we decided to take a chance on the longtime, but unknown, Antonio Arebol as a way to champion music we like from California. The Southern California based DJ, in turn, delivers passionate live mix that is a worthy 45th edition of the series.   - Sean-Michael Yoder

// Bio //

Antonio discovered his love for music as a youth in the streets of New Jersey and New York. The emergence of his love for music began with the sound of Kiss, Cheap trick, Rush, Boogie Down Productions and Wu-Tang Clan. As an adolescent Antonio decided to move to Phoenix Arizona in 1989 where resided there until 1999. Open-minded and eager for new challenges Antonio headed west to Los Angeles in March of 1999. New to the scene, Antonio accepted an invitation from a new friend to “Magic Wednesday” where he met his girlfriend, soon enough together they went to various clubs in addition too massive raves. Many local and national DJ’s ranging from Thee-O, DJ Dan and Donald Glaude quickly became heroes to him as he admired their candid ability to transform music by mixing. Without hesitation, Antonio quickly embarked on his journey to spin music. Dedicated to learning the skill, Antonio studied favorite mix cd’s and researched top of the line equipment. In no time Antonio purchased his MK3 Technics turntables, a Pioneer DJM500, and a JBL EON monitor in January 2001. Within one year through hard work and dedication his skills have drastically improved. Antonio’s sound is very unique as he does not discriminate against any particular genre of electronic dance music, spinning anything from house, progressive/trance, techno/electro, breaks and so forth. Antonio Arebalo has performed at various clubs in the Los Angeles area. His music shows professionalism variety and most of all passion.

The CONDUIT // 044 – Rubba J

Download

// Rubba J //

We’ve been wanting to do a funky mix like this for quite some time for the series, someone who really knows the roots, and Belgian producer Rubba J knows his roots. He caught our attention with his recent track for the Joshua Iz-ed Vizual imprint but has been around for a long while. Like many crate diggin’ enthusiasts, they are not professional DJs, and Rubba J is a producer by trade, but still took us up on the offer to make a passionate mix that showcased his love for the funky music that has inspired him over his career as an artist, As such, CONDUIT 044 is a fond and reminiscent look back at the mixtape trading culture of the late Eighties and early and Nineties, a time where anything went, as long it could make the dance floor move.  - Sean-Michael Yoder

// Bio //

In the early eighties Rubba J was allready bitten by the music vibe. To express himself he decided to follow two years of music courses on each Saturday to learn the basics of guitar. Then during the oldschool hiphop era he started experimenting with a little drum machine and his guitar, two tapedecks and a lot of passion in search for the funk groove. Continuing to explore his talents and taste for music, he hooked up with some fellow-friend musicians in the mid nineties and started a reggae-funk band called ‘Fever.’ While he was still discovering his own vibe, he became heavily influenced by Funk and was inspired by artists such as Prince, Roy Ayers, Herbie Hancock and others. One day, he discovered some of his girlfriend’s deep house CD’s. Immediately taken by the groove, it didn’t take too long before Rubba J found himself gathering all his experience and finding his identity in House Music. After making a demo, he came in contact with Koenie who is the dj & label-owner of Wallys Groove World, Wha? Roots Records. Thanks to Koenie, Rubba J met Marius, also a dj & producer on Wallys Groove World. Which collaborated into a new deephouse formation called Deepwater. Later on Rubba J also got together again with two old friends from Fever, Bernd & Wouter, and formed Trio Delicado, which stood for pulsating percussion with drums and funky vibes. Then finally in early 2001, Rubba J was really born. Under which he made his first solo debut. Together with Koenie & Marius, under the name “Mayaku”, he still continues to explore new horizons within Deep House music. Rubba J is a collection of creative musical experiences, making his style into what it is today. Sometimes funky, sometimes in a clear technological mood but always the same passion that drives it. Music is an important part of his life and he has released numerous songs under different labels.
