// Bio and Info //

Zach Lubin is from Chicago and has been DJing and making electronic music since 1991. He has performed across the US, as well as Spain, Holland, and Belgium. Playing alongside acts like The Advent, Claude Young, James Ruskin, Cari Lekebusch, Joris Voorn, Terrence Parker, Jay Denham, Plastikman and Larent Garnier, Zach is known for his high intensity and funky techno sets, which often infuse a lot of hands-on tricks similar to influences Dave Clarke, Derrick May, and Jeff Mills…… yet can often dive into deep avenues of Chicago, German, and Detroit-influenced house and classic disco and funk. After taking a hiatus to finish a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Zach returned to music production, and many works are posted at his Soundcloud page. He has releases on Jeff Mills’ Axis sister-label 6277, Chicago-based Kimochi, and an upcoming album on Parity Records. For DJ sets, check out his Mixcloud page at http://www.mixcloud.com/zachlubin/.

It’s been awhile since we’ve presented a podcast but we got one in this month from our favorite local producer Oilpanic. Hjalmar Hake is a good friend and someone we get to see perform and play records on a semi-regular basis so it’s taken for granted the transformative power a good DJ mix has when it is presented to be shared with others. It doesn’t have to be from distant spot on the other side of the globe, either, especially when you have producers in your own backyard who are every bit as good. We’re glad this finally came together and we get a great opportunity to showcase the quality of the local music to the world. – Sean-Michael Yoder

We are very excited to present an exclusive mix from Berlin artist Mike Wall. Mike’s debut album on Hidden Recordings entitled Different Colours has been tearing up the vinyl and digital techno charts during the early part of the year. He also runs his own vinyl only label called Wall Music, still plays records when he DJs, and is constantly playing a set somewhere in the world. This mix for CONDUIT is a sampler mix comprised entirely of tracks from Different Colours to give you a little taste of the Mike Wall sound. Hope you enjoy! – Sean-Michael Yoder

In a recent conversation with a friend he mentioned that the West Coast had it’s own special techno sound, very dark and warehouse friendly. In some ways it reminded him of the free-for-all spirit of the legendary Midwest scene that informed his youth. We’ve been fortunate to present mixes from a whole crop of artists from out West flying that flag, the best, in our opinion, and we’ve gotten quite an education. Cyanwave offers a different look at the West Coast vibe on our 65th edition of The CONDUIT. The duo dives deeper and gets weirder, while still tapping to the essential elements of the artform – rhythm and melody. – Sean-Michael Yoder

Minneapolis duo Complicit recently came to our attention via a remix for Northwest duo Cyanwave. We are consistently impressed these days with the techno coming out of the western half of the US and hope to continue featuring that as part of our lengthy investigations in 2013. The husband and wife duo of Travis and Tanya Norman’s official motto is ‘keeping techno sexy’, they’ve been doing that since 2009 and really seem to be hitting their stride this year. We were pleased when Tanya responded to our request for a mix and subsequently delivered a subtle and artful mix, just the way we like it…. – Sean-Michael Yoder
