The CONDUIT // 052 – Nalé Garcia

// Nalé Garcia //

We’ve been getting a ton of requests for an electro podcast, not electro house or the UR-friendly Detroit booty version either. We’re talking straight Eighties style electro with hints of synth pop melody, EBM toughness, and a little smidge of New Beat to keep things edgy. Nalé Garcia calls Mexico City home as an audio engineer doing mastering and is tapped in to the ongoing Eighties revivalism that has made a permanent home in Mexico. We are seriously loving this mix because in the US it simply can’t be done without a smirk and a lot of irony. Sometimes we just want to get down and party without an ounce of pretense, lucky for us Garcia understands.  – Sean-Michael Yoder

// Jack’s Son //

Our sights turn to Guadalajara. MX for our latest installment of The CONDUIT series. Mexico is the midst of a turbulent election season and in the spirit of these uncertain times, a good chunk of Mexico’s underground dance music artists from all over the country have united for a monster compilation and ongoing project called CatalogoMX. The idea is to bring unity through diversity in music to create a parallel reality in such troubling times. Living in a poor and politically corrupt place ourselves, we could relate to the uncertainty the youth of Mexico are facing right now (on a much smaller scale, of course) and were also completely blown away by Jack’s son’s debut album for Blaq earlier this year – To Clear. The mix of bass, sound sculpture, dub, and experimental sounds was what we expect from Blaq but Jack’s son took the sound to a different level that we’re still reeling from, which is apparently what his Abolipop label is all about. So we’re excited to get an exclusive mix from him and also to kick off an ongoing series of CONDUIT podcasts celebrating the diversity of electronic music from Mexico.  – Sean-Michael Yoder

Mild Bang has created some classics for respected labels like Blaq and Thoughtless Music, but his recent collaboration “Toi et Moi” on Loco Records has to be one of the hottest tracks we heard all last year.  – Sean-Michael Yoder

// Funk Shuei & Bioniq //

Dialtone is one of those numerous great labels bubbling up in Mexico, dance music’s new hotbed of creativity. Many of the labels are from Mexico City, but Dialtone’s founders Alexis and Christian are from Cancun in the East (and on the beach). I think for that reason the label’s music is quite different –  less dark and more dancable. The label roster is led by the Dialtone bosses under the alias Funk Shuei, for this mix they teamed up with Monterrey’s prolific producer Alex Galvan aka Bioniq for a Dialtone label retrospective to give listeners a full picture of what’s going on down south.  – Sean-Michael Yoder
