One of our favorite albums this summer has been the Psycheframe LP from Chicago artist Zach Lubin on Parity Records – a quality collection of gorgeous home listening techno. // Bio and Info //

Zach Lubin is from Chicago and has been DJing and making electronic music since 1991. He has performed across the US, as well as Spain, Holland, and Belgium. Playing alongside acts like The Advent, Claude Young, James Ruskin, Cari Lekebusch, Joris Voorn, Terrence Parker, Jay Denham, Plastikman and Larent Garnier, Zach is known for his high intensity and funky techno sets, which often infuse a lot of hands-on tricks similar to influences Dave Clarke, Derrick May, and Jeff Mills…… yet can often dive into deep avenues of Chicago, German, and Detroit-influenced house and classic disco and funk. After taking a hiatus to finish a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Zach returned to music production, and many works are posted at his Soundcloud page. He has releases on Jeff Mills’ Axis sister-label 6277, Chicago-based Kimochi, and an upcoming album on Parity Records. For DJ sets, check out his Mixcloud page at

The CONDUIT // 068 – Oilpanic

// Oilpanic //

It’s been awhile since we’ve presented a podcast but we got one in this month from our favorite local producer Oilpanic. Hjalmar Hake is a good friend and someone we get to see perform and play records on a semi-regular basis so it’s taken for granted the transformative power a good DJ mix has when it is presented to be shared with others. It doesn’t have to be from distant spot on the other side of the globe, either, especially when you have producers in your own backyard who are every bit as good. We’re glad this finally came together and we get a great opportunity to showcase the quality of the local music to the world. – Sean-Michael Yoder

This mix for CONDUIT is a sampler mix comprised entirely of tracks from Different Colours to give you a little taste of the Mike Wall sound. Hope you enjoy! – Sean-Michael Yoder

What was initially supposed to be an annual report mix has turned into a collection of tracks reflecting the not-so-static nature of our winter weather around here. Some days it has been warm and sunny with record high temperatures while other days have brought us record snowfall. With that in mind, we bring the local flavor for the 66th installment of this series.- Sean-Michael Yoder

The CONDUIT // 065 – Cyanwave

// Cyanwave //

In a recent conversation with a friend he mentioned that the West Coast had it’s own special techno sound, very dark and warehouse friendly. In some ways it reminded him of the free-for-all spirit of the legendary Midwest scene that informed his youth. We’ve been fortunate to present mixes from a whole crop of artists from out West flying that flag, the best, in our opinion, and we’ve gotten quite an education. Cyanwave offers a different look at the West Coast vibe on our 65th edition of The CONDUIT. The duo dives deeper and gets weirder, while still tapping to the essential elements of the artform – rhythm and melody. – Sean-Michael Yoder

The CONDUIT // 064 – Complicit

// Complicit //

Minneapolis duo Complicit recently came to our attention via a remix for Northwest duo Cyanwave. We are consistently impressed these days with the techno coming out of the western half of the US and hope to continue featuring that as part of our lengthy investigations in 2013. The husband and wife duo of Travis and Tanya Norman’s official motto is ‘keeping techno sexy’, they’ve been doing that since 2009 and really seem to be hitting their stride this year. We were pleased when Tanya responded to our request for a mix and subsequently delivered a subtle and artful mix, just the way we like it…. – Sean-Michael Yoder

// Bio //

Sone is Seattle based DJ & Producer Brian Sonnleitner. His first exploits into music was drumming in various punk and ska bands growing up in Wisconsin. Then late one August evening, after witnessing Chris Liberator melt his mind, Brian shifted gears into pursuing his passion for techno full time. Now a DJ of over a decade, his sets push towards intense builds and disorientating breakdowns all while being stuffed full of tension, but always maintaining the all-important element of the dance floor.

In 2008 Brian moved into the realm of production with his tracks exploring the bigger and darker side of techno. Sone’s remix contest for his track “Recovery Mode”, released off From 0-1, received far reaching interest and support with submissions coming in from all over North America, the UK, and Hungary. Brian is also the co-owner of From 0-1 and the Logistics Manager for the label. One of Seattle’s brightest up-and-comers, the years ahead will surely see his impact on the Northwest and beyond.

We return to Portland and to the home of all things big room techno – SubSensory, a label we very much like here at The CONDUIT. // Bio //

Southern raised, Northwest-based DJ and producer Roger Veillon, known as LilRoj to some, is at the front of the new generation of techno, crafting his trademark with funky deep and uncompromising sounds. Learning to beatmatch in the early 90’s, by the time Roj reached the age of 18, he had already developed his own profound blend of progressive techno and breakbeats and began making appearances in some of Louisiana’s top nightclubs and bars. Music production came natural as he began to gain studio access and resources in 2002. By 2008, he gained momentum with his debut remix of JAK’s “Relax,” on SubSensory Recordings, and is now a key producer and remixer for the label. These days, Roger’s sounds in the studio and on the decks are considered to be deep and engaging, characterized by funky atmospheres with plenty of low end emissions, and slightly more free-spirited and experimental than most common house and techno. In addition to a variety of remixes, Roger has since released three well-received original EPs on SubSensory as well as tracks and remixes on labels including Special Recordings and 530Techno.

The CONDUIT // 055 – ill76

// ill76 //

ill76 brings his tough Texas techno sound for the 55th installment of our series. He’s been around for as long as anyone can remember and even worked with Maetrik as a production partner at one point in his lengthy career. Here he rips through a crate of old and new vinyl for a warm, rich mix that is comprised of many moods. This mix also represents the best our series has to offer – a nuanced journey through new and old sounds presented with both enthusiasm and clinical precision – and we’re quite pleased to present it.  – Sean-Michael Yoder
